Brilliant narration and stiff yet surprisingly expressive animation make it easy to be drawn into its vague but tantalizing world, though the end feels artificially out of reach. Do you have any thoughts about this? Imma just drop that one official art here to tie this post cause it hurts my soul to think this monster is an insane Reynauld, cradling “Dismas” head.Darkest Dungeon is a grim and merciless tactical strategy game whose great tension comes from its many layers of complexity, unpredictable randomization, and willingness to put our fragile characters in mortal danger if we dare to venture into its depths in search of treasure and glory. Oh well, you know where I go from here, alternate timeline Reynauld being the Collector lives rent-free in the back of my mind… :pensive:īut I’m just rambling here, maybe my rarepair lenses are clouding my judgement. This makes me think The Collector isn’t even dead like the Necromancer, that he might have been a guy whose pact with the occult went terrible wrong! Also, the collected heads might not be literally reanimated heads of some version of our heroes, but eldritch abominations emulating them, maybe copying them from the Collector’s human memories… I mean, why wouldn’t they be tagged as unholy/undead if that was the case? Probably for gameplay balancing reasons but nevermind that lol Super weird, one would judge by the fact they’re a skull man and apparently reanimated corpses that they would be unholy as well, but nope, eldritch. So I found it weird that neither the collector nor his collected heads fit this category– they’re eldritch! The Collector is even HUMAN/eldritch.

You know, all unholy have in common the fact they’re undead reanimated (or in the case of the gargoyle, just stone animated?).

Ramblings about the Collector (and the fact he’s not unholy) under the read more, cause I can’t shut up about him apparently. As for the thrall, maybe this was a corpse caught in the process of becoming a fish man? Like in the journals? It doesn’t look fish like, but that’s all I can come up with as to why this corpse in particular isn’t solely unholy but also eldritch…

Necromancer we can see why he’s half eldritch, he can’t hide that beautiful claw there.

Unholy enemies visual reference sheet! ( Full size here)Īll of these are exclusively unholy enemies, save for the ones with an asterisk next to it, those are unholy/eldritch– just the Necromancer and the thrall, oddly enough (don’t let the blue glow and the fact they’re in the cove fool you, the drowned crew and its minions are JUST UNHOLY!!)
